I learned how to speak in public better and also I learned a lot about the different speeches. I went to a lot of speeches this semester for the course. Some of them were very interesting, such as the Tom Osborne speech I attend this year. When he was talking about politics and how he could make a good governor. I learned what a MLA and APA style of writing was about. Also I know what type of speech someone is giving. Now when I watch TV aids, I will know how they develop there summarily. Also I learned a lot from the book: The Art of Public Speaking by Stephen E. Lucas. The Monroe's motivate Sequence is a good way to know how to persuade a person. As you can see I learned a lot in this course this semester.

News

On the website Google, if you go to the link more and click on it and scroll down and click on news. After you do that you can look at the news from all over the place. I just click on U.S. on the left side. And I looked at the news in the U.S. The one article that I read was called: Strong storms bring rain, hail to parts of Texas. I thought it was a interesting article to read about. It happen in Gainsville Texas, when winds of 100 MPH and hail the size of baseballs. The hail and wind damage building and planes. About 15 planes were damage during this storm. Also there was example of someone in the storm, but they were in there house. This girl said she heard the windows breaking and the walls collapsed while she was home. Now that is kind of scary to hear about. I was in a scary moment one time when I was a child when we had to leave my home because of a twister that took our house away. I was scared at the time and I image on she felt when this was happening to her. Well that was a good article to read about, but not what happen in Texas. To find more articles to go to Google News.

Persuasive Speech #2

I did my persuasive speech #2 over "why you shouldn't smoke." It is run by sensors in the wall and it spreads throughout the house. The only think you have to do is to put a password in the machine because the company installs ADT in your home. And they said they are very friendly in answering questions. If someone sets the alarm off the company knows about it because it is run through a phone line senor. And the company calls you up and ask you if you're alright. Also they ask you if they should call the police for you. Some of the commercials were somewhat useful for the people to watch other's were not. The tobacco commercials on telling people to quit our good TV advertisements. The one I watch was about stopping underage smokers, from the Philipp Morris Company. Also some of those infomercial commercials were intriguing and some of them were not. For example the Food Saver is a good infomercial commercial because it says you money from not buying more food when it gets bad because you suck out all the air. I just think if you explain things all the way through when presenting your product and also showing examples. Then people might actually consider of buying that product. Also the price as a big impact on there product if they are giving speeches over it. Because people won't buy it if it is to expensive. Some of the speeches on the commercials didn't follow the Monroe's Motivate Sequence. But Most of them did in there speeches. The Buger King commercial I don't understand why they have a king waking up in the morning with someone. But I think they might have the commercial to promote there breakfast sandwich. That is one way to get attention from your audience because they are going to watch the commercials. The more funny or interesting thing in a commercial is the most intriguing one that often always sells their products.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs

I went to the website of Maslow's heirachy of needs at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_heierarchy_of_needs. I read the whole article and it was about the theory of psychology in 1943 that Abraham Maslow started. The theory was called the Human of Motivation. There is five things of human of motivation they are: Physiological, Safety, Love/Belonging, Esteem, and Actualization. Physiological is what we live on like air, water, and food. Safety is security of employment and the revenues/resources. Physical security, moral and physiological security. Also familial security and health. Love/Belonging is the relationships, family, gangs and religious groups. Esteem is the respect and getting respect from others. Actualization is when people make the most of there unique abilities. The five I just mention is just the needs we need in life.

Chapter Sixteen

Chapter sixteen is about the methods of persuasion. It talks about the credibility and the factors of it. Credibility is the audience's perception of whether a speaker is qualified to speak on a given topic. The two major factors influencing a speaker's credibility are competence and character. Another word that means credibility is ethos. There is three types of credibility they are initial, derived, and terminal. Initial is the credibility of a speaker before she or he starts to speak. Derived is the credibility of a speaker produced by everything she or he says and does during the speech. Terminal is the credibility of a speaker at the end of the speech. He always want to build your credibility, by doing this you must enhance it. You have to explain your competence, establish common ground with your audience, and deliver your speeches fluently, expressively, and with conviction. Last of all you should have evidence for your works. That is from your sources.

Chapters 15

Chapter fifteen is about speaking to persuade. Talks about the importance for persuasion. Persuasion is the process of creating reinforcing, or changing people's beliefs or actions. Persuasive speaking is the most complex and the most challenging. Persuasion is something a speaker does with an audience. The psychological interaction between a speaker and audience during a persuasive speech is similar to what happens vocally during a conversation. When you persuasive a speech you need a target audience, which is the portion of the whole audience that the speaker most wants to persuade. There is three things you can do persuasive speeches over they are fact, value, and policy. Monroe's motivated Sequences are attention, need, satisfaction, visualization, and action. And that answers all the questions you would need for a persuasive speech.

Fishing

When you think of fishing do you think of the different types of reels there are out there you can use to catch fish. Some of you only have heard of the basic reel, the one that you just push the button and hold it and cast it like that. But there is a couple different ones that you haven't heard of like the casting, spinning, and even the fly fishing reel. The casting reel is kind of difficult to use. Mostly PRO fishing people use this reel, because it is hard to cast with. If you don't set your drag or your tension on this reel you might have a mess with the line. When I mean line I mean it might get in knots or miss up in the reel. The only thing you can do to fix it is to get the string out of it and it the knots out of the string. Some people like putting there finger on the string and then cast it out. The spinning reel is sometimes difficult if you don't know what your doing with it. When you reel the line in, the reel does a spinning motion to it. Also when casting this reel of string you have to pull out on the reel string and pull back with the rod and do a forward motion and let the string go. Last real that difficulty is the fly fishing reel. When fishing with a fly fishing reel you hold on to the string and throw it in the water and let it up and do it again till you get a fish. Might sure you have a good about of string in this reel. Now you know the different types of reels.

National Guard

Some things to know about the National Guard is that you have to go through training and then you go to your posted area for assignment. For training is going through Basic Training and going to your job training. Basic Training is a nine week program in the U.S. at a Army base. You could go to Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, Ft. Learndwood, Missouri, Ft. Benning, Georgia, Ft. Sill Oklahoma, and Ft. Knoxs, Kentucky. Sometimes it depends on your job training. If your going to be in Transportation the Army tries to send you to one base instead of shipping you somewhere else for your job training. Basic Training deals with menial and physical strength. You do exericse, shooting, and discipline. After Basic Training you go to your job training school, and that depends on what type of school it is for the time being there. After that is over you go back to your State and you get assigned to a Unit in your home area. When you get to your Unit you will be issue equiment and uniforms. When you have all of that you have to go to Drills once a month and two weeks in a year. During these drills you will be doing your Army job there for as long as you signed up for being in the Guards.

Liver Failure

Liver failure is a loss of liver function because of the death of many hepartocytes. Not that many people know how the liver can failure and I'm going to tell you how. Who can get viral infection, or slowly over time, when your liver fails on you. When this happens it leads to multiple system complications. Vitamin K activation and production of clotting factors, the patient has coagulation problems. The causes of liver failure could be from hepatitis, but fewer then five percent of patients with viral hepatitis actually develop it. Some other causes include chronic alcohol abuse, hepatotoxic drug reactions, acute infection or hemorrhage that leads to shock, prolonged cholestasis, and metabolic disorders. Any body at any age could get liver failure. The children most likely get the disease from inherited. For the adult men are more likely to have it from alcohol-related. The only thing you can do for liver failure is to get a new liver but it is hard to get because you are on a waiting list to receive one. He is just three shy of Babe Ruths 714 home runs during his career of baseball. Even through the Giants lost the game, he still adds another home run to his career. Some people say the reason why he is hitting so good is because of steroids. There is a case right now dealing with steroids that Bonds has taken these drugs. But court isn't over for him.
Another baseball player that was taking steroids was Rafael Palmeiro. Who said he wasn't taking steroids, but the MLB did a blood test and found steroids in his body. He was kick out of baseball for 90 days. If you get caught the second time you miss half the season. The three time you get kick out of baseball for good. MLB stated this rule last year. So now a lot of people in baseball are cutting out the steroids, so they don't have to miss any games. I think they should not be doing this at all. The website I got this information from was: Fox Sports.com

Gas Prices

I'm kind of sick of seeing gas prices going up. I'm just wounding why they go up. We really don't know for sure. Some people think it is the oil companies doing this to us and some think it is the owners of the gas station. Usually around this time till May 31 the prices go up. I think we should have a set price for gas then we won't have any problems. A price that is reasonable for the people of the U.S. On Nightline on ABC some women was paying 200 dollars a week on gas. Now that is crazy for us to pay. Also in some places the prices are up to 3 dollars a gallon. I remember when I was in graded school gasoline was only like 90 cents a gallon. What is happening, is it because we have a low demand of oil or is it because of the war. I'm pretty sure we the people don't really know what the cause is. If we stop driving as much and don't travel that much. The gas prices could go down, but it won't be much.

Informative Speech #2

I did my second informative speech over pancreatic cancer. Also I used two good book sources called: Cancer Sourcebook and Diseases and Disorders (which is a nursing therapeutics manual. If not they should at least learned some things about what causes cancer. They should check out books or go to there doctor because sometimes it could be genetic in the family or they could get it from something else, like from smoking. This work-team meeting took place at the Ramanda Inn in Kearney Nebraska. The meeting started around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. During work-team meeting we talk about how we can do better in our jobs and certain things we need to keep doing. For my participation I gave examples and talk about what we need to do to improve on certain things. I talk about how we can set-up rooms better and go quicker on them. Also I gave examples on how to serve the food for the banquets. The people at the meeting took my ideas in mind, and they had ideas of there own. Things went well in the meeting, I throughout we got a lot of good ideas from people in the group. I think it is a good thing to do is have meeting with your employee so they know what's going on. We always have a meeting once a month.

Small-group meeting

A small group meeting is a limited number of members and the least amount of people is three people. Anything less then three people is just a dyad, which is different then a small group. During small group meeting, they have free discussion with the other members of the group. The people in the group have things in common and they discuss problems and they try to fix things or make things better. In chapter 18 it has a example of a small-group meeting. The example is: Some people of the store have problems with the high prices and poor service. They get in the small-group and prepare a formal complaint to the store manager about the prices and service. Also there is problem-solving groups that formed to solve a particular problem. In small-groups you should always have good leadership, by having good examples and having someone explain it well to the views of the meeting. There is five responsibilities for a small group, which are: commit yourself to the goals of your group; fulfill individual assignments; avoid interpersonal conflicts; encourage full participation; and keep the discussion on track. Last of all you have to define and analyze the problem. Also you must have good criteria and potential solutions. When there is taken care of you have to find a solution.

Informative Speech #1

When I was preparing my speech for my informative I was thinking "what would be a good speech to do." There was a list of ideas to do a speech on the informative speech #1 sheet. I pick the idea: your current career. My current career was that I was in the Army National Guard, so I discuss it in my speech. I give my experience of being in the Guards in my speech. I discuss the important things about the Guard, which were training, benefits, and protecting our country. I had a Time magazine on the Army and also I got four websites that discuss my topic pretty good. I thought I did my speech good, when I did it. I discuss my topic good when I did my speech. I think I still need to speak louder and try to speak more in public because I was kind of nervous, when I did my speech. Also I think it would of got the views attention because I went in details on my subjects. Over all I think I did well preparing this speech and performing it.

Speaking Event

On April 7, 2006 I attend a speaking event in Columbus Nebraska. The speaking event I attend was Rhino Lining at the AG Park in Columbus. The speaker was from Ziebart of Columbus. The speaker had good transitions in his speech. He would talk about the trucks and SUV's. And while he was doing this he would talk about the factory built linings in trucks or suv's and say they weren't strong enough from the cracks and are peeling off of the bedings of the trucks or suv's. Then he would switch easily with a transition by talking about his product. Also he had examples in his presentation, while he was speaking about the product. I thought the transitions was very helpful to me and the other people at the speaking event. The speaker used good language for the speech he gave. He used the right words in his speech to draw the peoples eyes towards him. His delivery was good, he didn't mumble or he didn't bring attention to himself or other people while he was giving his speech. Another thing was that he didn't have distraction going on while he was giving his speech. He brought out good ideas and good examples. All together I thought it was a good speech.

Citation Exercise

I just got done doing the citation exercise. I thought it was a good assignment to do, because it got me knowing how to use the MLA and APA. For my magazine article I got it out of TIME magazine over the war in IRAQ. The newspaper article I got was from the Kearny Hub. The article was about Dan Gable visiting Kearney for a little kids wrestling meet. Also I used the Speech book called: The Art of Public Speaking and a online source article called, "How To: Start your Own Weblog." The articles were easy to site in the Works Cited sheet. I just looked in my book called: The Brief Pengunin Handbook and it told me how to do it. Also I did a outline for my articles and cited each of my sources. This citation exercise is going to be very helpful in the future for my speeches and for any papers I have to write.

Online Research Exploration

When I was doing this online research exploration, I thought it was kind of neat and very useful. When I went to the Nebraska Access website (www.nlc.state.ne.us/nebraskaccess/about) I did the short tour and learned about the website and then I went back to the home page and login on the site. The site was easy to log on to the only thing you had to do is put your Nebraska license number down. Then I got in and it had a lot of databases to link on. For example: magazines, biographies, books, genealogy, business information, first search, books in print, and magazines. The topics I used from my self-inventory worksheets were fishing, New York City, and military. The databases were very helpful in my searches, especially the First Search link. The only thing I did was just type the topic in and I got a whole bunch of information on my topic.

Google.com has a lot of things to go to from its website. It has more then I thought on its site. When I went to the website of google news it was very helpful in finding what news I was interested in. I click on of the sports articles on March Madness basketball over George Mason. (http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/sullivan/20060325-9999-1s25sullivan.html) After my searches with google news I went back to the home page and click on more, which is a tab link on the website of google. I was very impressed by the links on this page. Some of the links were: google services and google tools. Now I can go to Blogger a lot faster since it is a link under google tools.

Speaking Event

On Tuesday March 14, 2006 I attend a speaking event at the Ramanda Inn of Kearney. The speaking event was Nebraska Highway and Roads. This group was there the whole week and they were training people on the roads and getting ideas from other people that work in the department of roads. When I was there on Tuesday I step in to one of there classes and listen to the speaker. In the room where the speaker was talking he had handout notes for people and he was a good speaker by explaining theses well that needed to be discuss. But there was some things that the speaker could of done better. For example, he could of had a visual aid for the people in the room. For the visual aid he could of had a power point presentation or pictures on a overhead or projector. That would help a lot for the people to understand and see what the problem was. Other wise the speaker adapted to the audience pretty good. He brought examples in his speech and he knew what he was talking about while he was doing his speech.

Self-Inventory Worksheet

The self-inventory worksheet helped my out a lot to find topics to do my speeches on. The places I travel or visit was New York City, Boston, Florida, and the Bahamas. Family and friends is what I value in life. Some dream jobs I would like to do are sports and become a actor. The sports I like are wrestling, cross country, and track. The jobs that I hold right now are working at a hotel as a banquet set-up and in the National Guard. An I picked the values topic. I had to prepare a speech on some values that are important to me in my life. I was thinking about it and I pick three things that value my life and they were family/friends, schooling, and the military. When I had my values picked out I started making some sides for my speech. I made a total of five sides. On the sides I had pictures and main things about my values. After my sides were done I was making note cards on my speech. I only needed three note cards to help me in my speech. I practice for a little bit on my speech to see if I was right on time and if it sounded good to me and everything was explained good. When I was ready to do my speech I went to the C.C.C. of Kearney Learning Center and taped my speech in a silent room so I had no distractions. The speech went well when I taped myself. After my speech was over I felt good about what I have done. When I got my grading sheet I can tell that I did a good in this speech. There are certain things I need to work on for example more of a conversation, gestures, and movements.

Speaking Event

I attend a speaking event on Sunday the 4 of February 2006.

Speaker: The person presenting an oral message to the listeners was Neil Halford from Fort Calhorn Nebraska. And I need to attend one of these speech's. I work at the Ramanda Inn in Kearny and we always have groups come in and do speech's. I might just attend one of those speech's at the hotel. They have about ten rooms for people to have meeting or weddings. Another place I can attend a meeting for a speech would be the library because they have a once a month meeting on books. Also I looked on the web page of the www.ccccneb.edu for meetings and there was one for a activity. Last of all there is town meeting at the Chamber of Commerce. As you can see there is a lot of places I can attend a meeting for a speech.
Some speech's I hear everyday would be that I'm the listener in class and at work when somebody is explaining something to me. I'm the person that receives the information

Careers

Today I wake up at 8 o' clock and did some homework and started realizing what I want to do in my life for a career. Right now I'm taking classes at the central Community College here in Kearney. This will be my second semester of schooling at the Kearney Learning Center. And I'm going to transfer over to UNK this following fall. My major has always been undecided because I really didn't know what I wanted to go into. Now I have a clearer picture of what I want to go into. I'm thinking about majoring in Psychology because I want to know about what the human brain is thinking and hypnosis. Mainly I'm interested in hypnosis because last night here in Kearney there was a hypnotist and the things he did seem interesting and enjoyable to watch. Also I'm taking a Psychology course this semester and it is called Human Development. So far it isn't to bad.

Today Events

Today I got up at 11:00 A.M. and did some homework for my classes.
